The video begins by showing the younger of the two lions walking up to the tree. He notices that an impala, a species of antelope that is native to the African savannah, is in the tree. It’s unclear how the kill got so high up in the tree, although these animals can jump high up. It is possible that the impala jumped up to escape a predator or other threat and succumbed to injuries or exposure while in the tree. Leopards are also known to drag their kills up into trees. The young lion tries without success to get the impala down. As he is trying, his older brother comes to see what is going on. The older lion has a more pronounced mane or thick fur around its face. The younger brother has just the start of a mane, thick dark fur on the back of its neck that will grow into a full mane.
Dividing Up Dinner
The young lion is not one to be discouraged, however. He climbs up the tree, eventually reaching the impala. This is about the time that his brother decides to give it a try as well. Jumping up just a few feet, the older lion grabs the front of the impala that his brother has dislodged and pulls it down. He hurries off, dinner in his mouth, leaving his younger brother with just the smaller back portion. The younger lion, still up in the tree, works to get his smaller portion of dinner down. The video was captured in Kruger National Park, one of Africa‘s largest and best-known natural parks. It is home to many animals that South Africa is known for, including lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, and leopards. Up Next:
