A pride of lions was relaxing on an overcast day when suddenly a herd of buffalo appeared. Normally, this would be an exciting moment to catch fresh lunch for the felines, but the pride was outnumbered. They all scattered off to safety, yet the male lion was left behind. To avoid becoming attacked by the buffalo, this large cat ran up a tree! It’s incredible to witness such a large animal nestled so carefully on a tree branch. The buffalo are rather magnificent creatures. They are quite courageous and, if given the chance, will charge lions. They’ve been the prey of these creatures for so long, that if they have the chance to fight back, they will at full force. Epic combat between lions and buffaloes is undoubtedly one of the most thrilling we’ve seen in the animal kingdom. Since buffalo have traditionally been the lions’ preferred food since they can feed the largest herds with a single specimen, the two animals have historically been fierce rivals.
It Takes Two to Tango
Eventually, this large cat gets down from the tree branch and makes a run for it. As soon as one of the buffalo starts to run towards him, the lion turns around and stands his ground! This makes the entire herd of buffalo run in the opposite direction! The feline turns back to find his pride when one final buffalo makes an attempt to attack the cat. We won’t give any spoilers – you’ll just have to watch the video below to see what happens! A comment on the upload reads, “Lion is definitely outnumbered but doesn’t give up easily. He did drive them back.” Another person says, “Some days the lion wins, some days the buffalo, it all balances out.” The truth is, lions are apex predators that don’t have much to fear. Except for humans, lions have very few predators to avoid. Hyenas could feast on a young or ailing lion. Adult male lions have been known to assault and devour cubs. Humans pose the greatest threat to lions because they hunt them and intrude on their habitat. Buffalo are hardy, self-assured creatures who frequently retaliate violently when they perceive danger. It’s always necessary to maintain a safe distance from buffalo because many anthropogenic impacts can appear dangerous to them.
