You peruse the gum, magazines, and candies just before you pay for your food. Now, imagine entering your favorite supermarket, thinking it’s business as usual. But when you turn into a familiar aisle, you spot a massive monitor lizard. Monitor lizards are lizards, yes, but not the little kind that scurries about on your go-to hiking trail. These godzilla-like creatures grow as long as 10 feet in some cases, sometimes even longer. They have very strong and well-developed legs. Their tongues are reminiscent of a snake’s tongue — and they use it to detect food. A supermarket would certainly have what a monitor lizard is looking for. These animals move quickly. You can tell just at a glance that they’re powerful creatures. They’re also venomous, which makes them extremely dangerous to humans. Now, if you were the person in this video, you would have stayed to watch the rest of the scene unfold. Anyone else would have likely fled without thinking twice. The video captures the reptile starting to scale some shelves in a corner of the store. It’s climbing right up boxes likely in search of a snack. This monitor lizard has clearly never been advised not to shop when hungry. It makes it up onto the fourth shelf with its back legs as it keeps reaching upward. Its tail is so long that it is still partly dragging on the ground. It keeps scaling, kicking boxes down, and almost slipping. However, it continues up to the highest shelf and makes its way over to sniff at the ICEE machine. Then, it looks like it’s finding a place to lounge. It’s much like how a cat scales a cat tree to get to the most advantageous viewpoint. Once on top, it seems to settle in. The video cuts at that point so we don’t get to see exactly what this monitor lizard ends up doing or how these shop owners end up getting it out. However, the site of this huge dinosaur-looking thing in a supermarket can definitely make you feel like you’re watching something straight out of a computer-generated imagery (CGI) movie.
