Numerous other names for mountain lions include cougar, puma, catamount, painter, and panther. They are the most geographically diverse cat species in the world, occurring as far south as Chile and as far north as Canada. Mountain lions are solitary cats who are very adaptable to their surroundings and circumstances. Because of this ability to adapt, mountain lions have survived across a large portion of their original territory in the Americas despite significant habitat loss and ongoing threats. These cats are extremely powerful and won’t hesitate to take down humans, pets, and anything in between when they’re hungry enough. A Youtube Short shows a close interaction between one of these gorgeous felines and a group of hounds in a snowy forest.
The Power of Man’s Best Friend
Because dogs are more attentive than humans, they will warn you if a mountain lion is nearby and may even frighten it away. Many people who enjoy hiking with take their dogs along for that very reason. With that being said, mountain lions can and will attack canines. Those living in mountain lion territory are often warned to bring small pets in at night. These cats can easily blend in with their environment and will attack before you or your dog can even react. The Youtube Short we’re discussing today showcases a single mountain lion backed up against a tree. Four dogs surround it and are barking at it to go away and to get off of their territory. The one advantage these pups have in this situation is that they outnumber the cat. We wish the video was longer to know how it ends. As animal lovers, we like to think that the mountain lion runs off and all the hounds return safely home to their owner. Interestingly enough, the lion doesn’t climb the nearby tree as the dogs are closing in. A comment on the video reads, “When the cat gets calm in a chaotic situation that’s usually when you should worry. He’s figured out his game plan.” Another viewer writes. “Standing your ground and seeming unfazed by terrible odds is an awesome cat trait, big and small. I fully believe the dogs could have taken it down.” What do you think happened in the end? Take a look at the video and let us know!
