Since all these species are in their natural habitats, you’ll likely be lucky to spot them playing, feeding, hunting, or running from predators! In fact, some visitors spotted a leopard hunting a monkey – how incredible is that! First, it’s pretty rare to see leopards hunting, as they primarily hunt at night when they rely on their excellent hearing and eyesight. Moreover, while they’re good climbers and like resting on tree branches, these animals prefer hunting on the ground or, rarely, by jumping down on the prey from a tree! In this video, however, we see a leopard hunting a monkey during the day by climbing a tree! So let’s see what happens! The monkey is enjoying the pleasant weather on a tree when a leopard spots it from a nearby tree! The leopard quickly climbs down from its tree and walks slowly towards the tree the monkey is on, as if nothing’s happening! It then rapidly climbs the other tree, reaching its top in less than five seconds! At the same time, the monkey, probably spotting the leopard and feeling the danger, jumps from one branch to another, eventually reaching the tree the leopard has just climbed down from! Well, the monkey must be safe now, right? How can the leopard reach it? Well, the story doesn’t end here! The leopard stops for a bit and walks slowly on the branches while looking at the monkey as if planning what to do next. It jumps from one branch to another as if it were a flying bird – effortlessly and lightly! The monkey doesn’t give up, though! It jumps from one branch to another, trying to confuse the leopard and save its own life! It took the leopard just a fraction of a second to perform a large jump from one tree to another! The monkey keeps jumping on the branches until the leopard spots it, runs towards it, and catches the monkey with a huge jump in the air! You probably thought the monkey would’ve been able to keep its distance, right? But there’s no escape from the speed the leopard caught it with!

How Far Can Leopards Jump?

Leopards are excellent runners and jumpers! They can easily jump twenty feet forward and ten feet vertically! These numbers are even more fascinating when leopards jump from narrow tree branches! Moreover, they can reach running speeds of up to 36 miles per hour – they can even beat your car!
