With thousands of alligators and crocodiles, a breeding marsh, a nature walk, and unique reptilian presentations like the Up-close Encounters Show, Gator Jumparoo, and Legends of the Swamp Show, there is something for everyone at the 110-acre facility. During the breeding season, alligators can be ferocious combatants. Alligators bite and battle to eat, court, defend, or preserve their territory. They will consume practically everything, including one another. While on a visit to the popular tourist attraction, a visitor filmed an intense interaction between two alligators. Alligator males live alone and are known to be quite territorial. A male alligator grows up to nine feet long and has a territory that is around two square miles in size may also have 10 to 15 females living there with their young.  A male alligator measuring 12 to 14 feet long might have a territory of up to three square miles and even more females. Therefore, when two males enter each other’s “personal space,” they frequently engage in vicious turf wars. The fight at Gatorland started with two of these apex predators grabbing each other by the tail. A man hilariously pops his head into the frame and says, “Welcome to the jungle.” Wild animals are known to do crazy things and these gators are showing us just what they’ll do to protect their space.

Preparing for a Fight

The male alligators make low bellowing and hissing noises before engaging in such contests to entice mates and scare off competitors. The water above their backs begins to spray up like a water fountain as a result of these low-pitched bellowing and hissing sounds. This remarkable display can be seen and heard in the video down below. This is the main cause of why alligators are the most talkative reptiles. Alligators have the ability to do a death roll. This is where they take their prey, even another gator, and roll it around until it’s disoriented. Then they proceed to kill it. Yes! Both the Chinese and American alligators have the ability to death roll. In actuality, every member of the Crocodylidae family – alligators, crocodiles, gharials, and caimans – can perform a death roll. While the gators in the video from Gatorland aren’t performing death rolls on one another, their interaction is quite intense. However, many people who have encountered alligators in the wild claim that these reptiles can actually be fairly docile and kind creatures despite their reputation for being violent and destructive to other animals.  Perhaps the two in the footage just need a time-out from one another. While they have plenty of room to roam at the tourist attraction, everyone needs their space now and again.
