Tigers are regarded as solitary hunters even though we occasionally observe them living in close proximity to one another in documentaries and movies. Their preferred method of hunting involves stalking their victim, which makes mass hunting unfeasible. A video showcases a lone tiger foraging near a dirt path when a giant water buffalo appears. Wild water buffalo are powerful creatures, standing 5 to 6.2 feet tall at the shoulder, with thin gray-black coats. Large, backward-curving, crescent-shaped horns that are close to five feet long and have deep ridges on their surface are carried by males. These animals can weigh up to 1,200 pounds, while a full-grown male tiger can reach about 680 pounds. As soon as the water buffalo in this footage sees the tiger, he stops in his tracks. It’s not uncommon for tigers to viciously attack water buffalo.
Make a Run For It
Surprisingly, we see the tiger run into the tall grass. This smart move by the cat makes the buffalo think it’s safe to move forward. Cautiously, the buffalo does just that and eventually heads off into the grass on the other side of the road. While we can’t know what happens once the video ends, we do get a peak into what could’ve occurred. Just before the footage cuts off, the tiger runs back into the road and follows the water buffalo! When pursuing prey, tigers primarily rely on their senses of hearing and sight rather than their sense of smell. To get as close to their unwary prey as feasible, they discreetly approach their prey from behind. Then they try to kill their prey by giving them a vicious bite to the throat or neck. These big cats are known to take their time and will stalk another animal for half an hour before making an attack. In fact, water buffalo is one of the main food sources for tigers! This feline sees the intruder as a fresh meal, hence why he quickly ran into the tall grass.
